Mayank Agarwal 'clinically stable' after mid-flight 'medical emergency'

He had complained of stomach pain and burning sensation in his throat and mouth after consuming liquid from a bottle that he believed contained drinking water

Mayank Agarwal has scored two centuries and a fifty for Karnataka so far in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season•PTI

Mayank Agarwal, the Karnataka captain, was admitted to a private hospital in Agartala on Tuesday after he complained of stomach pain and burning sensation in his throat and mouth after consuming liquid from a bottle that he believed contained drinking water, while onboard an IndiGo flight. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Agarwal was travelling from Agartala to Surat via New Delhi for Karnataka’s fifth-round Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways starting on Friday. Agarwal was deplaned and rushed to hospital after a bout of vomiting inside the aircraft, even as the rest of the Karnataka squad continued their onward travel.ILS Hospitals, where Agarwal was admitted to, later confirmed that he is “clinically stable” and being “clinically monitored”. They said that Agarwal was experiencing some “oral irritation” and “swelling on the lips”. He will be under observation for 24 hours. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is in touch with officials from the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) and the doctors attending to Agarwal. The Karnataka team manager, on Agarwal’s behalf, has also requested the Tripura police to investigate the incident. A written complaint has been signed and issued to K Kiran Kumar, Superintendent of Police (Tripura West) and a case has been registered under the jurisdiction of the New Capital Complex Police Station in Agartala.”While sitting on a flight, he saw a pouch in front of him and thinking of it as water, drank it,” Kiran told PTI. “He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint and will investigate the matter.”Agarwal is set to undergo a few tests following which a decision will be made if he can return home to Bengaluru over the next couple of days for further examination. This all but rules him out of Karnataka’s upcoming Ranji fixture. In a press statement, IndiGo confirmed that the flight had to return to Agartala due to a medical emergency: “IndiGo flight 6E 5177 operating from Agartala to Delhi returned to origin due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was offloaded and was rushed to the hospital for further medical assistance. The aircraft took off again for its destination at 1620h.”Agarwal has so far struck two hundreds and a half-century in the ongoing season. Karnataka are currently placed second in Group C with two wins, a draw and a defeat in four matches. Nikin Jose, the 23-year-old batter, is the designated vice-captain in the squad and is likely to take over the captaincy.

Thierry Henry teammate reveals the 3 Henry traits Isak can bring to Arsenal

da brwin: Amid increasing rumours linking Alexander Isak with a move to Arsenal this summer, a former Invincible has revealed the similarities between the Swede and former teammate Thierry Henry.

Arsenal Invincible compares Isak and Henry

da dobrowin: The rumours surrounding Isak should come as no surprise. The forward has been the star of the show at Newcastle United in recent seasons and perhaps no more so than in the current campaign, scoring the Magpies’ second goal on their way to defeating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

That form has only continued at international level too, as he scored a stunning goal for Sweden in a thrashing of Northern Ireland this week.

If Newcastle’s reported price tag is anything to go by, then they’re well aware of the battle that they’ll have on their hands this summer. The Magpies have reportedly slapped a valuation as high as £120m to sell Isak this summer in the hope of fending off the likes of Arsenal.

Only adding fuel to the transfer flames, however, Arsenal Invincible Philippe Senderos has revealed the three traits that the talented striker shares with former teammate and Gunners legend Henry.

Arsenal told Hale End has a gem with no ceiling who may be better than Saka

He’s one to watch…

ByTom Cunningham Mar 26, 2025

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, when asked about whether Isak can reach Henry’s levels, Senderos said: “Well, why not?

“He definitely has the attributes to be able to do that but to reach the heights of the likes of Thierry Henry, you need to be special in terms of your mental approach to the game and this is developed over years, but you have it when you start. To be compared to Thierry is a big big honour because Thierry was and is a special type of person.

“Speed, for sure, dribbling attributes and direct to the goal, links up well. He’s (Isak), not only a goalscorer, he also makes his teammates play and do better. Yes, he does, but again I go back to Thierry and the amount of years that he’s been doing it and how special he is and was as a player, he still has a long way I would say.”

Isak must be top of Arsenal's wishlist

On course to lose out on the Premier League title for a third season in a row, Arsenal must send a statement this summer – Mikel Arteta must welcome a big name and a striker capable of winning the Golden Boot.

His side have enjoyed an impressive rise since his arrival six seasons ago, but the Spaniard must now take the Gunners to that next level. And Isak would play a large part in that alongside rising stars Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who are expected to play larger roles next year to strengthen the squad even further.

Whilst Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have scored a combined 22 goals, Isak alone has found the back of the net 23 times in all competitions for the Magpies. His price tag may be hefty, but there is no doubt that the Newcastle star would be worth every penny.

A player who has similar traits to Henry, as revealed by Senderos, Isak looks destined to steal the headlines this summer.

Apareceu, do Atlético-MG.

Novamente, mesma postura adotada no caso Patrick.

Jasprit Bumrah could make it to India’s Champions Trophy squad subject to him being fit in time for the tournament that begins on February 19.ESPNcricinfo has learned the injury that prevented Bumrah from bowling on the fifth day of the Sydney Test is stress related. Though the first round of tests did not reveal a stress fracture in the back, it is understood the discomfort Bumrah suffered was related to his workload in the five Tests in Australia. He bowled 151.2 overs in nine innings, taking 32 wickets at an average of 13.06 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.Accordingly, on advice from medical experts, the BCCI decided to allow Bumrah rest for at least five weeks (the Sydney Test finished on January 5) after which he will undergo another scan to determine if he can return to action.Related

If Bumrah is cleared of injury, his match fitness is likely to be tested in the final ODI of the home series against England on February 12. The deadline to submit the final Champions Trophy squad to the ICC is February 11.As it stands, Bumrah is likely to be named in India’s 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy that will be announced on Saturday, with an asterisk against his name, implying his inclusion is subject to fitness.India play three ODIs against England on February 6, 9 and 12 – their first ODIs since the tour of Sri Lanka in August last year – before the Champions Trophy begins on February 19. India are in Group A in the Champions Trophy and begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, after which they play Pakistan on February 23, and New Zealand on March 2. India play all their matches in Dubai because their government refused to let the team travel to Pakistan.

Khawaja: 'I was just getting Bumrah-ed'

Australia opener hails “the toughest bowler I have ever faced”

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Jan-20251:18

Manjrekar: ‘Bumrah, a bowler without a weakness’

Usman Khawaja came into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy not too worried about facing Jasprit Bumrah. In fact, Bumrah hadn’t been able to dismiss him across the seven Test innings they had faced each other previously, and the Australia opener reckoned the fast bowler gets easier to navigate as you play him more. But after six dismissals to the India fast bowler across eight innings where he faced him, Khawaja admitted he “was just getting Bumrah’ed”.Related

Bumrah frustrated after missing out 'on the spiciest wicket of the series'

What did victory over India tell us about Australia's present and future?

“To be honest, I was just getting Bumrah-ed,” Khawaja told ABC Sport after Australia regained the BGT in Sydney. “It was friggin’ tough work. It was tough work. People were asking me ‘what’s going on?’ I’m being honest, I’m just getting Bumrah-ed.”Bumrah finished the series as the highest wicket-taker, with 32 scalps at an average of 13.06 and was duly named Player of the Series. He could bowl only nine innings though, and he couldn’t take the field during Australia’s chase at the SCG after experiencing back spasms during their first innings. In Bumrah’s absence, Australia sealed the win with six wickets to spare, and Khawaja admitted that Australia felt more confident on a spicy pitch when they saw that Bumrah wasn’t on the field.”You never want to see anyone injured and it’s a shame he was, but thank God for us. Because today would have been an absolute nightmare facing him on that wicket,” Khawaja said.”And you can see what a big part of their team he was. And everyone felt it. As soon as we didn’t see Bumrah out there, we had this sense of feeling that we’ve actually got a chance here.”Khawaja said Bumrah is “the toughest bowler I’ve ever faced” and hailed the fast bowler’s improvement from his first tour of Australia in 2018-19.”He was always good, he was a very good bowler [in 2018]. But he’s been something different this year,” Khawaja said. “It looked like he’s just got his tail up.”The wickets have definitely helped him, but he’s six years more mature, he’s a better bowler, he understands his skills. He understands who he’s bowling to and he has different plans for everyone.”I always feel like no matter how good a bowler is, they’ll always give me something to score off. I just never felt like I could score off him. It just felt so hard. I’ve never found someone so hard to score off and get off strike as Bumrah and you always feel like he’s got a wicket ball up his sleeve.”

Rangers star who Martin's desperate to keep is now "ready to quit" Ibrox

da dobrowin: A Rangers star who Russell Martin is looking to keep at Ibrox is now “ready to quit” the club this summer, according to a new report.

Martin expecting new Rangers signings before Panathinaikos clash

da bet7: The Gers don’t have long until their first competitive game of the 2025/26 season, with a two-legged Champions League qualifier against Greek side Panathinaikos scheduled for the end of July.

Martin and the 49ers Enterprises are therefore looking to get deals over the line before July 22 and the first leg at Ibrox, with the new manager expecting a couple of signings by then.

Midfielder Lyall Cameron became the club’s first official signing of the summer after penning a pre-contract agreement back in February, whereas right-back Max Aarons will move to Rangers on loan from Bournemouth.

More could be on the way, but several incomings may also be coupled with a few departures. The likes of Robin Propper and Cyriel Dessers heavily linked with leaving Ibrox.

There have also been rumours of an exit for Nicolas Raskin, however, Martin wants to keep both Raskin and Hamza Igamane and build his Rangers side around the pair.

Despite this, a new worrying transfer update has now emerged on Raskin’s Rangers future.

Nicolas Raskin "ready to quit" Rangers

According to a report from Ibrox News, Raskin is “ready to quit” Rangers over the coming months and “could soon inform Rangers of his decision to leave”.

It is added that the Belgium international “is only willing to depart Ibrox if a side from a top league is to show a strong interest in his signature”.

The 24-year-old, dubbed “unbelievable” in the past, has been linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Leeds United, with the latter also owned by the 49ers.

Knee injury forces Healy to play as batter only against New Zealand

Beth Mooney will take the gloves for the three-match series but the opening match is threatened by the weather

AAP and ESPNcricinfo staff18-Dec-2024

Alyssa Healy is still working her way back from injury•BCCI

Australia captain Alyssa Healy’s niggling knee will prevent her from keeping wicket in the ODI series against New Zealand. But she is hopeful she can play as a batter in all three games to ready herself for the Ashes in January. Beth Mooney will continue filling in for Healy behind the stumps, starting in Thursday’s series-opener at Basin Reserve in Wellington.”I won’t be wicketkeeping this series … but there’s not a lot of cricket leading into the Ashes, so for me, it’s an opportunity to try and get back on the park, as a batter, and try and find some runs more importantly,” Healy said on Wednesday.”I feel like I’ve hardly played any cricket for the last eight or nine months and there’s a good opportunity to do that. The knee’s tracking well, it’s just a day-by-day thing, and we’ll just assess as we go.”Healy’s frustrating run with injury opened the door for Australia to debut Georgia Voll in the recent home series against India. Voll, who hit scores of 46 not out, 101 and 26 in her first three ODIs, is set to be the unlucky player to drop out with Healy returning.”We’ve been transitioning for a little while, getting some youth in the side,” Healy said. “But obviously forced hand with some injuries at the moment. I think we’re in a really great space, the depth in Australian cricket is really strong.”And everyone who keeps stepping in, to take my job in particular, seems to make my runs or take wickets, so we’re in a good space at the moment.”New Zealand will enter the battle for the Rose Bowl on a high after winning the T20 World Cup in October with this their first home cricket since that historic moment. However, they have not beaten Australia in a bilateral one-day series 1999 or in an ODI since 2017.”I just remind them we pumped them in the round game, but they’re okay to have the trophy,” Healy said. “There is an air of disappointment around our group after the World Cup, I don’t think there is any way to beat around that.”I think the discussions that have come post that have been really promising, and where we want to take our cricket moving forward and how we want to play our style of game, as sad as that may seem.”New Zealand are in danger of missing direct qualification for next year’s ODI World Cup with this three-match series their last of the current Women’s Championship. They are currently sixth in the table with two automatic spots to claim alongside hosts India and already-qualified Australia, England and South Africa. Bangladesh and West Indies, who are below them, still have matches to play.A crowd of 4000 is expected at the Basin Reserve on Thursday although the forecast is poor before being more promising for the matches on Saturday and Monday.”It’s well overdue [beating Australia], but we also know the challenge we’re up against and we know that we’re going to have to be at our best to win at least two games to get that cup back,” New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said. “This is our first opportunity to play back up at home as T20 world champions…so now we just need the Wellington weather gods to play ball as well.”
