Same agent as Bamford: Club will now accept bids from Leeds for £15m star

Leeds United are currently battling it out to land an automatic promotion place back to the Premier League at the first time of asking this season. The Whites are third in the division as it stands, one point behind Leicester City and two points behind Ipswich Town, with three matches left to play.

Daniel Farke's side will have to go through the lottery of the play-offs, where they could face his former side Norwich City, if they fail to break back into the top two.

If the Yorkshire-based outfit do earn promotion, though, then they could look to bolster their squad, and the latest update on one of their reported targets makes for happy reading for the club.

Leeds United's chances of signing Joe Rodon

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are set to sanction a permanent exit for Leeds loanee Joe Rodon in the upcoming summer transfer window, and will "accept (an) offer" from the 49ers Group at Elland Road.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke adds that the Whites would '"love" to sign the central defender on a permanent deal at the end of the season, after his loan move comes to an end. The reporter writes that Spurs are now expected to cash in on the Wales international, who they had signed from Championship side Swansea, later this year.

Leeds United's loan defender Joe Rodon.

Football Insider adds that a fee of up to £15m could be enough to secure his services, although it remains to be seen whether or not the club are prepared to offer that for Rodon.

The towering defender shares an agency – CAA Stellar – with current Leeds teammates Patrick Bamford and Daniel James and this, along with the existing loan deal between the two sides, suggests that the Whites already have a relationship in place to negotiate a deal this summer.

Why Leeds should sign Rodon on a permanent deal

Farke has showcased his love for Rodon throughout the Championship season by consistently selecting him at the heart of the defence. The German boss has also hailed him as "excellent" and praised the centre-back's "warrior mentality" at times, with his fantastic performances at the back for Leeds.

He has started 39 of the club's 43 league games this term and played a crucial role in the team having the best defensive record in the division, with just 34 goals conceded.

As you can see in the table above, the 26-year-old titan has provided consistently impressive displays at the back, dominating opposition attackers with a 66% duel success rate.

No Leeds player has made more clearances per game than Rodon and only Ethan Ampadu (1.4) has more interceptions per match so far this season, which speaks to how important his defensive work has been since his loan switch from Spurs.

At the age of 26, the Welsh colossus may also have his best years ahead of him, as he has plenty of time to develop and improve under Farke, which means that Leeds signing him on a permanent deal could be a fantastic move in the short-term and for the future at Elland Road.

Tottenham now considering bid for "proactive" record-breaker in summer deal

With or without Champions League football, it looks as though Tottenham Hotspur are set to continue their backing of Ange Postecoglou, who has seen a number of new players arrive during his first year in charge. Now, reports suggest they are considering a bid to welcome a record-breaker in the summer.

Tottenham transfer news

Daniel Levy and co have splashed the cash in the last two windows to welcome the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and many more, and this summer looks set to be no different. Whilst the Lilywhites won't have the Harry Kane money to spend this time around, the rumour mill indicates that they'll still be in a position to strengthen Postecoglou's squad.

Among those who have already grabbed the headlines regarding Spurs is Morgan Gibbs-White, who is looking likely to be among those sacrificed to help Nottingham Forest avoid a second PSR punishment. Sitting one point adrift of safety after their four-point deduction, Forest may even lose Gibbs-White for an even cheaper price if they suffer relegation this season.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Spurs are eyeing a shock summer move to land a record-breaking defender. According to reports in Spain, Spurs are considering a bid to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United, who has enjoyed a resurgent spell after a torrid time at Old Trafford.

Initially signed for £80m back in 2019, Maguire broke the record to become the most expensive defender of all time in a tag that has only stood in his way ever since. Now, United are almost certain to suffer a major loss if they decide to sell the former Leicester City man this summer. Benefiting from that, reports suggest, may well be Spurs, as they look to bolster Postecoglou's backline.

Given the injury troubles of Van de Ven, welcoming Maguire would certainly be a wise piece of business from Spurs, especially if they can land a bargain deal this summer.

"Proactive" Maguire can forget United struggles with Spurs move

Whilst Maguire has put an end to the negative noise at Manchester United, that may only be temporary given the pressures of Old Trafford. And if the England international gets the chance to put an end to his current nightmare for good, he should take that chance. He wouldn't be stepping down to a different level, either, with Spurs also a top-six club vying for a place in the Champions League.

Maguire's stats also show that he'd be more than capable of stepping in and keeping up with Cristian Romero if Van de Ven's injury issues persist next season.

Erik ten Hag could yet be hesitant to lose Maguire after his recent return to form, however, having sung his praises earlier this season. The Dutchman said via The Guardian: “I have to say Harry is playing like we want him to play. Very proactive out of possession, dominating his opponent, stepping in when necessary, reading the game, good covering but also in possession very proactive, stepping in, delivering good passes, switching; yes, I am happy with his performance.”

Newcastle eyeing £42m dream Isak partner who’s "difficult to defend"

Despite the heavy investment of over £400m by the Saudi PIF since the takeover back in 2021, Newcastle United have struggled at times this campaign with their squad depth.

The Magpies already had a thin squad, however, multiple long-term injury concerns have seen the club struggle, with Eddie Howe's side often looking depleted in multiple key areas.

Injuries to the likes of Sven Botman and Joelinton have seen the Magpies boss rely on once-forgotten players and youth talent to fill the gaps left by senior first-team members.

Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton.

Jamal Lascelles and Lewis Miley have often been the pair to replace the duo, with the pair often doing an admirable job given the current situation the club has found itself in.

Given the crisis, the club have identified one player as a potential summer signing to provide more squad depth, with the talent currently excelling in one of Europe's top five leagues.

Newcastle eyeing up dream Isak partner

Newcastle have invested their money wisely since the high-profile takeover, with the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes worth every penny of their transfer fees since arriving at the club.

According to German outlet SportBild – via Sport Witness – the Magpies are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush, with it assumed that the Magpies, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur would offer between €50m (£42m) and €60m (£51m) for the 25-year-old.

Omar Marmoush for Frankfurt.

The Egyptian has scored ten goals and created six assists in his 21 appearances in the Bundesliga this campaign, with his form catching the eye of Howe's side.

Marmoush, who is "difficult to defend" according to manager Dino Toppmoller, has also impressed in Europe, with the 6 foot forward scoring four times in his seven Europa Conference League fixtures this campaign.

He only arrived at Frankfurt last summer from fellow Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg, with the attacker currently under contract until 2027.

His brilliant goalscoring record this season, coupled with his versatility to play all across the forward line could make him an exciting proposition for the Magpies, but it would be a deal that could see PIF spend the majority of their summer budget, with the club treading carefully to stay within the Premier League's strict PSR rules.

How Marmoush would fit in at Newcastle

Anthony Gordon and Isak have both cemented their starting position under Howe, with Miguel Almiron in danger of losing his place should Marmoush arrive at St James' Park.

When comparing the pair's stats from the Premier League and Bundesliga in 2023/24, the Egyptian forward dominates the Paraguayan, further highlighting the fact he would be an upgrade on the 30-year-old.

As seen from the stats above, the Frankfurt forward blows Almiron out of the water with his tally of assists and successful take-ons greater than the Magpies forward despite primarily playing as a centre-forward this season.

That assist record would then allow him to provide quality service to the likes of Isak, with the towering Swede – who has netted 16 times this season in all competitions – ready and waiting to pounce on those chances.

Marmoush has all the qualities to feature on the right-hand side of Newcastle's attack, with his stats showcasing he would be a suitable upgrade on Almiron – especially considering the rumours linking the 30-year-old away from St James' Park.

Omar Marmoush for Frankfurt.

Although they may face tough competition from Liverpool for his signature, the club should go all out to sign the Egyptian, with his quality dramatically improving the forward line and completing Howe's attacking puzzle.

West Brom struck gold with a star who’s now worth more than Thomas-Asante

West Bromwich Albion, even after a tricky first 45 minutes away at fellow Championship side Huddersfield Town, managed to come out on top 4-1 at the John Smith's Stadium owing to a devastating second-half display.

Mikey Johnston continues to endear himself to the Baggies fanbase, the Celtic loanee chipping in with two goals during the eventually one-sided contest, whilst Okay Yokuslu goes from strength to strength in a holding midfield role as well for Carlos Corberan's men off the back of his standout display in West Yorkshire.

Typically dogged and determined in approach to allow his playoff-chasing side to tick, the imposing Turkish midfielder even helped himself to a goal in the victory away from his normal duties with a thunderbolt effort sending the travelling West Brom fans into raptures.

The decision to bring the ex-Trabzonspor man into the building on a permanent deal in 2022 continues to look like an ingenious call, with the Baggies paying nothing to win their now star man's services at the time.

Okay Yokuslu's transfer value at West Brom

Once on the books at West Brom as a loanee at the back end of the 2020/21 season, the West Midlands outfit probably couldn't believe their luck when they ended up winning Yokuslu's services on a free transfer.

He has since gone on to become an important part of the Corberan jigsaw puzzle after being initially signed by Steve Bruce, with the forceful 30-year-old midfielder ever-present for large portions of this season to date – making 36 appearances in the second tier in total.

It has resulted in Yokuslu's transfer value rising all the way up to a hefty €3.5m (£2.9m) as per Football Transfers, which sees the West Brom number 35 come in as the second most valuable member of the squad currently according.

Sourced by Football Transfers

His inflated value also sees him rank as a more valuable player than Brandon Thomas-Asante, despite the Baggies striker leading the goalscoring charts at the Hawthorns this season with ten goals.

Surprisingly, Yokuslu – despite hammering home with venom against Huddersfield last match – only has that solitary goal next to his name this season and could well look to kick on for the remainder of the campaign to prove his worth to the Baggies promotion cause.

Okay Yokuslu

Alongside the likes of seasoned first-teamers Darnell Furlong and Conor Townsend, who sit just below Yokuslu in terms of their market value, the experienced West Brom side will hope they can push through to the Premier League even if the nail-biting playoffs come their way.

Okay Yokuslu's continued importance

Corberan and Co will just be relieved that they didn't cash in on their Turkish star in January in the end, with reported suitors from his native country sniffing around before the close of the transfer window.

Instead, Yokuslu will hope he can continue to lead by example in holding midfield as a tough but impactful presence for the promotion-chasers on their way to glory being achieved.

The 30-year-old would shine rolling his sleeves up by winning four tackles too in the comprehensive Terriers win, on top of finding the back of the net with confidence.

Yokuslu's transfer value could well skyrocket even further if he does end up being one of many heroes in the West Brom camp that enable the West Midlands outfit to return to the top flight, with the 30-year-old loving life under Corberan currently.

Considering he was picked up on a free transfer, it cannot be doubted that West Brom sealed a golden deal by signing Yokuslu when they did.

Nicolas Jackson 'a perfect fit' for Bayern Munich as Vincent Kompany backs Chelsea loanee to play 'important role' alongside Harry Kane

Vincent Kompany believes Nicolas Jackson to be "a perfect fit" for Bayern Munich as the striker prepares for his Bundesliga debut.

Chelsea loanee joins on €16.5m dealKompany expects speed and attacking driveSenegal star eager to learn from KaneFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern unveiled Jackson as their latest signing after securing the Chelsea forward on a season-long loan in a deal that cost the Bundesliga champions €16.5m (£14m/$19m). The agreement also includes a conditional purchase clause worth €65m (£54m/$71m), though the conditions make it unlikely to be triggered. The 24-year-old Senegal international's arrival gives Kompany another attacking option to partner Harry Kane as they aim to defend their Bundesliga crown and compete for the Champions League title.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportWHAT KOMPANY SAID

"This first phase is very important for him because he didn't have a proper preparation at Chelsea," Kompany said at a press conference unveiling the striker. "He's a good athlete and it won't take long for him to get back to 100 percent. We have to wait and see when he can play from the start. What I've seen so far is very good. He's a young player with a lot of quality. He'll pose a great threat with his speed and attacking drive."

He added: "We're always very flexible up front, and I think that's a good thing. That's why Nicolas Jackson's profile makes him a perfect fit. That's why he'll play an important role next season."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Kane already established as the team’s leading striker, Kompany now has a versatile forward capable of playing alongside or around the England captain. Jackson recently said that he is looking ahead to playing with Kane, who is already top of the Bundesliga goal chart alongside Michael Olise with three goals from two matches.

Jackson said: "Kane is one of the best strikers in the world. I hope to learn from him, complement his game, and build a strong bond on the pitch. We are two strikers who complement each other very well on the pitch, and we will work hard to ensure the results live up to expectations."

Getty ImagesWHAT NEXT?

Jackson is expected to make his debut in the Bundesliga clash against Hamburg, and Bayern will hope his integration is smooth, particularly with Champions League fixtures looming. Beyond his immediate adaptation, the loan will also be a test run to see whether Jackson fits Bayern’s long-term vision. If he impresses alongside Kane, the club may yet revisit a permanent deal in the future.

Boost for Pochettino: Chelsea now "favourites" to sign star £100m+ striker

Chelsea are believed to be the favourites to sign a big-name striker in a potential mega-money transfer this year, according to one journalist.

Chelsea eyeing new forward

The Blues appear to be on the hunt to secure the services of a marquee forward in 2024, with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen both linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino has Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja as his go-to options at this moment in time, although the former has had a tricky start to life in England and is away at the Africa Cup of Nations, while the latter has been linked with a Stamford Bridge exit.

Therefore, Todd Boehly may need to get the chequebook out again over the coming months, and there have been claims that the Blues had recently failed with a £73m offer for Gyokeres.

Sporting CP strikerViktor Gyokeres.

Things look to be more positive when it comes to Osimhen, though, with the Napoli star reportedly open to a transfer after Chelsea held “positive” talks with the player’s entourage.

“I understand Chelsea have had contact with Osimhen’s entourage in recent weeks/days to discuss the possibility of the Napoli striker joining Chelsea. The feedback they have had is positive, with there being an understanding that Osimhen would be open to joining Chelsea", journalist Simon Phillips said earlier this month.

“Behdad Eghbali has initiated this contact and now has good relations with Osimhen’s agent. Now, that doesn’t mean Chelsea are 100% signing Osimhen, and it doesn’t mean that he would also not be open to joining other clubs if they come in.

“But right now, Chelsea’s ownership are very keen to try and do something to get Osimhen in the door at Chelsea and one source has even said they are still looking for a way to try and make that happen this month.”

It now looks as if Chelsea are in a good position to get a transfer done at some point this year, following a new claim from journalist Dean Jones.

Victor Osimhen transfer latest

According to Jones, writing for GiveMeSport, Chelsea are the current “favourites” to win the race for Osimhen. The Blues are in pole position for the Nigeria international ahead of Real Madrid, with sources in Spain insisting he is not currently a key target at the Bernabeu.

Chelsea, who have been in early contact over a move for Osimhen through intermediaries, were worried about potential interest from the European giants. However, Jones adds that Madrid ‘spending over £100million on Osimhen has not been factored into that at this stage, giving Chelsea further hope as they prepare their pitch for the Nigerian goal machine’.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Osimhen, whose release clause stands at €130m (£110m) has gone from strength to strength in front of goal with Napoli and has been dubbed a goal-scoring "machine" and "Napoli’s heart and soul" by journalist Mina Rzouki.

Meanwhile, football talent scout Jacek Kulig has hailed the player as a “superman”.

If Chelsea were to get a deal over the line for Osimhen, it could help take Pochettino’s side to the next level, especially after the forward’s 31-goal tally during the 2022/23 season.

Man United transfer news on Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is ‘definitely’ on the ‘radar’ of Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The lowdown

The Nigerian striker joined Napoli in a £67.5m move from Lille in September 2020, and his £112,000-per-week contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona still has more than three years to run.

He has scored 27 goals in his 60 appearances for Napoli to date, including 17 in 30 games this season. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Azzurri will demand at least €100m (£85.6m) to let him leave in the summer.

United are gearing up for Erik ten Hag’s first transfer window in Manchester after he was announced as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent successor as manager. However, the Red Devils appear to have lost out in the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who now looks set to join local rivals Manchester City.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-updates/” title=”Latest Man Utd updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The latest

Jones has said that Osimhen is an option for United as a centre-forward target in the upcoming transfer window. The player appears to boast the desired profile for Ten Hag, but his price tag could apparently be an issue.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “He’s a really good player, and definitely somebody that’s on United’s radar for the summer.

“He is extremely expensive. That is a big drawback in terms of pursuing it. He does fit what they’re going to be looking for, though.”

The verdict

You can understand why Ten Hag would want to add a new number nine at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 24 goals this season but he is now 37 years of age, and he could leave at the end of 2022/23 when his contract expires. Meanwhile, fellow veteran Edinson Cavani is poised to leave in a matter of weeks as his deal winds down.

Marcus Rashford is capable of operating as a centre-forward, but he has endured a difficult campaign, scoring only five goals.

Osimhen may come with an eye-watering price tag, but he is only 23 and looks like an elite striker in the making.

The Serie A player of the month for March is a ‘thoroughbred bomber’ who can become ‘world-class’, in the opinion of his manager Luciano Spalletti, and he definitely appears to be a viable alternative to Haaland for United in the transfer market.

In other news, Sky Sports have dropped a live-on-air Paul Pogba update.
